I was woken up yesterday morning by the sound of Shelby, who was in the bed next to me, throwing up. Awesome. Nothing worse than a child throwing up because they are just so helpless. Shelby was a trooper though. In fact, she was bright and bubbly after we gave her a bath and got her all cleaned up. That is, until later that afternoon. I put her down for a nap around noon, and twenty minutes later she woke up screaming and crying, pulling at her ear, and telling me that her "ear wasn't working". This child never complains about things like that, so I quickly made an appointment for the doctor. Turns out she only had the very, VERY early stages of an ear infection. She did have a very red throat and the doctor said she was probably hurting more from that than anything.
Later last night, Jeremy was at church, Shelby had fallen asleep on the couch, and I was taking a moment to rest in bed while watching American Idol. I heard Shelby wake up, so I got up and took her to the bathroom. I started cleaning up the kitchen, doing the dishes, etc. when I started to get this pain in my back. Kind of felt like a really bad pulled muscle. It went away after about 30 seconds, but then it happened again a minute or two later. The pain quickly intensified to the point where when it happened every couple of minutes, I was paralyzed. It felt like someone was doing an Indian rug burn on my spine, and the pain would radiate to the front. Jeremy came home a few minutes later to find me crying on the floor, and Shelby crying in the living room because she was freaked out. After a few more minutes of these contractions, he called my doctor who then sent us to the hospital.
By the time I got there, the contractions had mostly stopped, and were only showing up on the monitor as minor "irritations". Of course! Not that I wanted the contractions to continue, but I hate the thought of the nurses thinking I am one of THOSE people. Trust me, Jeremy saw me, my doctor and my mom heard me on the phone, Shelby freaked out...I was in pain. When I had Shelby, I was induced. My contractions started almost immediately after they started the first round of Cytotec so they quickly gave me some medicine to help me sleep. I really only felt maybe 5 or 6 contractions. The contractions I had last night were nothing like that. These started in my back and went to the front. And then there was tons and tons of pressure in front. All tests came back fine, and other than a really sore back today, I am fine. One cute thing I wanted to note is that at the hospital, Shelby was laying in the bed with me and pointed around the room and asked where we were. I told her we were in the hospital and she said, "But then where's Joey?". Then, on the way out, we walked by the nurses station and the nurse that had been helping me said goodbye. Shelby looked up, waved and blew her a kiss, and then said, "Bye! Thank you! And thank you for my mommy!". Too cute!
This morning we woke up to a winter wonderland. We had record snow here in Dallas. I kept looking out the window all day long expecting to see that the snow had stopped, but even just now, when I looked out (it is 11:15 pm) it was still snowing! We had about 8 inches of snow, maybe more at this point. Shelby was SO excited when Jeremy finally got home and she got to play in the snow. His office is closed tomorrow because of it, so hopefully they can play in it a little more before it all melts.

Tomorrow we are leaving to go to Bastrop to celebrate Papaw's 85th birthday. Shelby is so excited to see everyone. She loves visiting family, and that's all she's been talking about all week. Hopefully we'll have lots of pictures to share on Sunday!

Aidan you should call me when stuff like that comes up. I can come get Shelby and take care of her for you guys. Hope you are feeling better and the trip to Bastrop is restful.
Yikes! So, they said everything was ok? I hope your upcoming trip will be throw-up and contraction free!!
SNOW!! How fun, I am jealous--although even just the sleet and rain we have been getting has made a mess of the Mardi Gras parade schedule so far! But it really is crazy what a weird weather year it has been. Glad you are feeling better--I can only imagine how much pain you were in!
