Six Months

Lucy turned 6 months old on the 17th!  I feel like just in the past two weeks she has become such a big girl.  She weighs 19 lbs 10 oz (above 95th %), and is 26 in tall (a little above average).  She is eating rice cereal and oatmeal, and has tried a few vegetables in the past couple of weeks.  She is really still adjusting to the taste of everything though and doesn't particularly like any of it.  She is SO CLOSE to crawling.  She can go backwards and in circles, and can scoot forward a little bit.  She is so determined and focused and gets frustrated when she can't go forward.  I think another week and she will have it down.  She is sitting up, though usually when I sit her up on the floor she quickly gets back down on her belly to try and crawl. 

She still isn't sleeping great.  She will have a week where she will sleep through the night every night.  But then she will have a week where she will wake up 2 times during the night.  Right now I am attributing that to her two bottom teeth that I think are going to pop through at any moment.  Another reason she has been waking up is this:

 

 

Eczema.  Ugh, it is so awful.  Shelby and Joey may have had just a slight problem with dry skin...I really can't remember.  Obviously never anything like this or I would remember it.  This is horrible.  It covers her back and tummy.  She has scratched her head so much that it is scabby and gross and we have to put Neosporin on it to make sure it doesn't get infected.  Her dr. gave us a prescription last Thursday and I had been slathering that on her, but it just wasn't helping.  So he gave us a steroid cream to try and are hoping it will help relieve some of her discomfort.  I've also been trying coconut oil on her, which makes her smell delicious.

 

Aside from that, she really is a happy baby.  She loves laughing at her sisters and playing with her toys.  She has gotten better about letting people hold her, which is good for me because she is heavy!  She gave up her pacifier a few months ago.  I was really surprised she actually took one to begin with since Shelby and Joey never did.  Like her sisters, she really doesn't have any real comfort item, though she does prefer my raggedy, 31 yr old baby blanket over all the others.  She will sleep with the others, but I find that if I use my blanket she will fall asleep much faster.

 

We just love Lucy and can't believe how quickly she is growing!

 

 

 



 

Que Pasa

We traveled down to El Paso for the 4th of July to spend time with my family and attend my nephew, Max's, baptism.  My mom, dad, and brother drove down from Utah, and my sister, Jordan, and her family drove in from Beaumont.  It was a packed house, but we had so much fun. 

I have never wanted to have a pool in my backyard.  I was perfectly happy just having our neighborhood pool just down the street.  However, after staying at my brother's house, I think I have changed my tune.  If we weren't at the baptism or at church on Sunday, we were in the pool.  Before we left, Shelby was able to doggy paddle across our pool.  Now she is pretty confident and is jumping in and swimming under water and even trying to kick and stroke correctly.  It really helped that Max and Luke are on swim team because Shelby was trying to keep up with them.

The baptism was wonderful.  The cousins all sang "I Am A Child Of God" and one of Sandra's friends prepared some amazing refreshments.

Afterwards, we went back to the house for Max's birthday party.  The caterer made the BEST TACOS I'VE EVER HAD, and also introduced me to an awesome carrot, jicama, cucumber, and mango slaw.  Oh, and japoneses!!  Those are addictive!

20 hours total in the car was a lot, and West Texas is pretty much a wasteland, but it was all worth it.  We had a great time and are already missing family.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 



Freedom Fest 2013

Saturday morning we got up early and headed down the road to the Freedom Fest.  I look forward to this every year because I just love small town parades.  This year's was slightly disappointing though.  Maybe tons of people were traveling or something, but there was very little parade participation.  There are usually tons of kids on bikes and golf carts, but there was hardly anyone this year.  Oh well.  The girls still had a good time (except that Joey was not feeling great, so she was in the stroller or carried most of the time).

We stood in line for what seemed like an hour to get faces painted.  It seriously took the girl 15 minutes to paint a star on Shelby.  Sigh.  Joey got Spiderman on her face.

Lucy gives the best kisses.  I love that she will grab your face and pull you in so you get the most slobber.

Birthday Girl

Shelby turned 6 on Friday!  I can't believe she is 6- it really doesn't seem possible.  We started off the day with some birthday doughnuts.  We gave Shelby her presents first thing in the morning.  She loved her two new Leapster games, as well as her new art supplies, but her favorite was her brand new jewelry box.  We celebrated later by having Kym, Randy, Debbie, Seth, Michelle, Katelynn, Hedy, and T.J. (all Jeremy's family) over for pizza, cake, and ice cream.  It was so great to visit with family and the kids had a great time.
